125 kHz RFID proximity reader for access control, Wiegand 26, IP66, SecureEntry-CR30LF

GTIN: 5907614668853 · SKU: SecureEntry-CR30LF

The SecureEntry-CR30LF is a proximity reader for 125 kHz RFID cards and fobs in a wide 120 × 75 × 20 mm housing. It does not make access decisions itself: when a card is held to it, it reads the card number and sends it over the Wiegand 26 interface to an access controller or a time recorder, which decides whether to release the door. The fully potted IP66 housing resists water and dust and works from −40 to 60 °C, so the reader can be mounted outdoors, at a gate or on a building entrance.

How the reader works

  • The reader is a Wiegand reader only. It has no memory of users and no relay. The card number goes to a separate device, such as an access controller, an electronic lock with a Wiegand input or an HDWR time recorder, and that device releases the door
  • When a card is read, the LED turns green and the buzzer beeps while the Wiegand data is sent
  • The controller can drive the LED and buzzer through the two optional wires: pulling the LED wire low turns the LED green, pulling the buzzer wire low sounds the buzzer
  • The output format is Wiegand 26 bits (factory default); Wiegand 34 is available as an option. The controller must be set to the same format

Installation

SecureEntry-CR30LF installation: step 1 the two screw holes A and C and the cable hole B drilled in the wall, step 2 the back plate screwed to the wall with the cable led through hole B, step 3 the front cover fitted
  1. Drill two holes for the screws (A, C) and one hole for the cable (B) in the wall.
  2. Place the rubber wall plugs in holes A and C.
  3. Lead the cable through hole B and connect it to the controller as described below, with the power off.
  4. Screw the reader to the wall with the two screws.
  5. Finally, fit the front cover onto the reader.

Wiring

The reader has six wires. Four are needed for operation, the brown and yellow wires are optional.

  • Connect red and black to the 12 V DC supply of the controller, and green and white to its Wiegand D0 and D1 inputs. The reader and the controller must share the ground
  • Connect brown and yellow only if the controller has LED and buzzer outputs and you want it to confirm access on the reader
  • Make the connections with the power off and switch on only after checking every wire

Reading a cardThe LED turns green and the buzzer beeps; at the same time the reader sends the Wiegand signal.
External LED controlWhen the input voltage on the LED wire is low, the LED turns green.
External buzzer controlWhen the input voltage on the buzzer wire is low, the buzzer sounds.
Wiegand data outputWiegand 26 bits as the factory default, Wiegand 34 bits available as an option.

Troubleshooting

  • The card is not read. Hold it within 5 cm of the front of the reader. The reader reads 125 kHz EM cards only; 13.56 MHz cards need the SecureEntry-CR20HF.
  • The reader beeps but the door does not open. The reader has done its job; the decision is made by the controller. Check that the card is registered in the controller and that the controller is set to Wiegand 26.
  • The controller receives wrong or no card numbers. Check that green goes to D0 and white to D1, not swapped, that the reader and the controller share the ground, and that both use the same Wiegand format.
  • No LED and no beep at all. Check the supply on red and black: the reader needs 9–18 V DC.
  • The LED or buzzer behaves unexpectedly. The brown and yellow wires are driven by the controller. Leave them unconnected if the controller has no LED and buzzer outputs.

Frequently asked questions

Is the SecureEntry-CR30LF a standalone access controller or just a reader?
It is a reader only. It reads the card number and sends it over Wiegand 26 to a separate access controller or time recorder. It does not store user data or make access decisions itself, so you need a controller with a Wiegand input to define the access rules and manage users.
Which cards and key fobs are compatible with the SecureEntry-CR30LF?
Standard 125 kHz RFID cards and key fobs with EM chips, read from up to 5 cm. Cards working at 13.56 MHz are not supported; for those use the SecureEntry-CR20HF.
Can it be used together with a time recorder?
Yes. A common setup places the SecureEntry-CR30LF outdoors and connects it over the Wiegand 26 wires to a time recorder or access panel installed indoors. Employees present their cards at the outdoor reader and the indoor device records the event.
Can it be mounted outdoors?
Yes. The fully potted housing is rated IP66 and the reader works from −40 to 60 °C, so it can be installed at a gate or on an outside wall.
How does it differ from the SecureEntry-CR10LF and CR20LF?
All three read 125 kHz EM cards over Wiegand 26 and are wired and mounted the same way. They differ in size: the CR30LF has the widest housing, 120 × 75 × 20 mm, the CR20LF is 120 × 48 × 20 mm and the CR10LF is the mini version at 70 × 37 × 17 mm.
What are the brown and yellow wires for?
They let the controller drive the reader's green LED and buzzer, for example to confirm that access was granted. They are optional and can be left unconnected.
