Installation

The cash drawer is equipped with a standard 6-pin RJ12 plug for direct connection to any EPSON POS printer or Epson-compatible POS equipment. When the receipt finishes printing, the printer automatically opens the drawer.

Inside, four banknote compartments with spring-loaded latches and five coin compartments keep the cash tidy; they can be removed or rearranged as needed, and the whole insert can be lifted out completely. Two slots on the front let you put away other means of payment — such as vouchers, cheques or payment confirmations — without opening the drawer.

How to open the drawer

The drawer can be opened in three ways:

  1. With the key included in the set.
  2. Emergency opening — using the lever located underneath the device.
  3. Electronically — from the cash register, after the drawer has been connected with the RJ12 cable.
warning

To reduce the risk of damaging or breaking the key, avoid leaving it in the lock during normal operation.

Removing the drawer

Open the drawer and remove the plastic tray for coins and banknotes. Pull the drawer out as far as it will go, tilt the front edge of the drawer upwards, and pull the drawer out at an angle.

Maintenance

The cash drawer slides should be cleaned and lubricated periodically. The frequency depends on usage and environment, but the typical recommended interval is every three months.

  1. Using a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe off old grease and debris from the inner and outer guides. Do not use water or any liquid cleaners.
  2. With a clean applicator, apply a thin layer of lithium-based bearing grease to the inner and outer guides.
  3. Slide the guides back and forth several times to coat the polyurethane rollers properly and distribute the lubricant evenly.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open the HD-KR33 cash drawer?
The lock has to be in the open position first — when it is locked, the drawer cannot be opened and electronic pulses are ignored. With the lock open there are three methods: manually, by turning the key one more position past 'open' until the latch releases; electronically, when a fiscal printer or cash register issues the open-drawer pulse over the RJ12 cable; or in an emergency, using the lever underneath the housing.
How does the HD-KR33 differ from the HD-KER series?
The HD-KR33 ships with a fully removable insert for coins and notes, so you can lift out the whole tray and empty it away from the till. HD-KER drawers do not have the removable full insert; only the coin insert lifts out. The HD-KR33 also has two front slots. Choose the HD-KR33 if you want to carry the entire insert away at end of shift.
Which cash registers and fiscal printers is the HD-KR33 compatible with?
The drawer has a standard 6-pin RJ12 connector and a 6/12 V solenoid, which is the most common POS standard. It connects directly to any EPSON POS printer or Epson-compatible device that issues the open-drawer pulse. Some legacy devices use a different pinout — check the device specification before ordering, or contact us with the model name and we will confirm compatibility.
Will the HD-KR33 work with a Novitus cash register?
No. The HD-KR33 is a passive drawer — the cash register supplies the solenoid pulse. Novitus cash registers require an active drawer with its own power supply and controller, so the two designs are not compatible.
What should I do if the drawer does not open from the fiscal device?
First confirm the lock is in the open position — when locked, electronic pulses are ignored by design. Then check that the open-drawer command is enabled in the cash register / fiscal printer software (the command name varies by vendor) and that the RJ12 cable is firmly seated. If it still does not open, use the key to open it manually and contact support.
Which mounting bracket fits the HD-KR33?
The HD-KR33 is designed to be used with the dedicated HD-MB33 mounting bracket, which fixes the drawer securely and space-efficiently under the counter.
