Introduction

The OPrint-IA200WN is an industrial label printer for warehouses, logistics centres, production and shipping. It prints in direct thermal and thermal transfer mode at 203 dpi, up to 203 mm/s and up to 104 mm wide, on continuous media, die-cut labels, black mark media, fan-fold and notched media. Its die-cast print mechanism in a metal cabinet takes label rolls up to 203 mm (8") in diameter and long ribbons, so the media needs to be changed less often. The printer connects over Wi-Fi, Ethernet (LAN), USB 2.0 and RS-232, and has a USB host port for a scanner or keyboard. Two buttons (FEED and PAUSE) and four LED indicators show the printer status.

Switch the printer off before plugging the power cord into the printer.

Driver and software

  • Windows driver — run the installer, accept the license agreement, select the installation folder and choose Install Printer Driver. Select the printer model, choose the port (connect the printer over USB first, or add it as a network printer by its IP address) and finish the installation. You can check the installed printer in Windows Settings → Devices → Printers and scanners or in Control Panel → Devices and Printers, and change the port in the printer properties (Ports tab). The printer accepts EPL, ZPL, ZPL II, DPL and TSPL commands, so it works with popular label design programs.

  • Configuration application — shows the printer information and status, changes the printer settings (click Load to read the current settings, then Set to write them to the printer), configures the communication port and sends commands or files to the printer.

  • Windows label printer driver (EXE)
  • Printer configuration application (EXE)

Loading the ribbon

Loading the media

  1. Slide the label roll guard to the end of the label supply spindle and fold it down.
  2. Place the media roll on the label supply spindle and secure it with the label roll guard.
  3. Pull the print head release lever to open the print head mechanism.
  4. Route the media through the media guide bar, the damper, the media sensor and the label guide (see the media path below).
  5. Move the media sensor with its position adjustment knob so that the gap or black mark sensor sits where the label gaps or black marks pass. Adjust the label guide to hold the media in place.
  6. Close the print head mechanism on both sides and make sure the latches engage. Set the media sensor type and calibrate the selected sensor.

Media can also be fed from outside the printer through the external label entrance chute at the back.

OPrint-IA200WN print head pressure adjustment knobs with 5 positions

The print head pressure adjustment knob has 5 positions. Press the knob down and turn it left or right to change the print head pressure.

tip

For labels narrower than 2" (51 mm), set the pressure knob as close to the inner edge of the label as possible to avoid unnecessary friction between the print head and the platen roller.

Vertical position adjustment knob on the right side of the print head

The media is aligned to the left side of the mechanism, so different media widths need different pressure on the right side of the print head. Turn the knob on the right side of the print head to decrease or increase the right-side pressure and get the best print quality.

Avoiding ribbon wrinkles

The printer is fully tested before delivery and normally prints without ribbon wrinkles. Wrinkles depend on the media width and thickness, the print head pressure balance, the ribbon and the print darkness setting. If wrinkles appear:

  • Wrinkle runs from the lower left to the upper right of the label — turn the right-side vertical position knob inward by one step and print a label again.
  • Wrinkle runs from the lower right to the upper left of the label — turn the right-side vertical position knob outward by one step and print a label again.
  • If the wrinkle does not disappear, also change the print head pressure adjustment knob by one step and check again.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible causeSolution
The power indicator does not light upThe power cord is not connected properly.Connect the power cord to the printer and the outlet, then switch the printer on.
Out of ribbonThe ribbon has run out, or it is loaded along the wrong path.Install a new ribbon, or reload it following the ribbon loading steps.
Out of paperThe paper has run out, it is loaded along the wrong path, or the gap / black mark sensor does not detect it correctly.Install new paper, reload it following the media loading steps and calibrate the label sensor.
Paper jamThe gap / black mark sensor does not detect the media correctly, the label size is set incorrectly, or a label is stuck inside the printer.Calibrate the label sensor, set the correct label size and clean the inside of the printer.
Unable to printThe cable is not connected properly; the ribbon and media are not compatible; the print density is set incorrectly; the print head cable is not connected properly.Reconnect or replace the cable. Check the ink side of the ribbon and reload it, and clean the print head. Switch the printer off and reconnect the print head connector.
Poor print qualityThe ribbon or media is loaded incorrectly; dust or adhesive on the print head; wrong print density; damaged print head element; incompatible ribbon and media; the print head mechanism is not latched properly.Reload the consumables, clean the print head and the platen roller, adjust the print density and speed, run a self-test and check the test pattern for missing dots, use a suitable ribbon or media, and close the print head mechanism properly.
Labels are skipped when printingThe label size or sensor sensitivity is set incorrectly, or the media sensor is dusty.Check the label size, calibrate the sensor (Auto Gap or Manual Gap) and blow the dust off the gap / black mark sensor.
Wrong print position on small labelsThe media sensor sensitivity, the label size or the vertical offset in the driver is set incorrectly.Calibrate the sensor sensitivity again, set the correct label and gap size, and set the vertical offset in the driver if needed.
Missing print on the left or right side of the labelThe label size is set incorrectly.Set the correct label size.
WrinklesThe ribbon or media is loaded incorrectly, the print density is wrong, or the media is fed incorrectly.Set a suitable print density, make sure the label guide touches the edge of the media and follow the steps in Avoiding ribbon wrinkles above.
Grey line on a blank labelThe print head or the platen roller is dirty.Clean the print head and the platen roller.

caution

Do not touch the print head with your fingers; if you do, clean it with ethanol. Do not use medical alcohol, which may damage the print head.

  • Clean the print head and the media sensors every time you change the ribbon — this keeps the print quality high and extends the printer's life.
  • Check the rollers, the print head and the other parts regularly for dirt and wear.
  • Replace the ribbon in good time so that printing is not interrupted.
  • For full-width black lines, the maximum black line height is 40 dots (5 mm at 203 dpi), because the maximum print ratio per dot line is 15%.

Usage and storage

  • Use the printer indoors in dry rooms only; protect it from water, moisture and extreme temperatures.
  • Protect the printer from shocks and falls, and make sure the power, USB and LAN cables are not damaged.
  • Do not use the printer near strong sources of electromagnetic interference, such as large electrical devices, and avoid places with strong vibration.
  • If the printer will not be used for a long time, unplug it and store it in a dry, cool place, away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight.
