Label stands

A label stand (also called an external label holder) lets you feed large label rolls or fan-fold labels into a desktop printer that would otherwise only accept the small rolls that fit inside its housing. Free-standing, no printer connection — the stand simply positions the media so it feeds smoothly through the printer's external media slot.

Why use a label stand

  • Run larger rolls than the printer's internal compartment allows — fewer roll changes per shift
  • Cheaper per label — larger rolls cost less per metre
  • Stable feeding — keeps the label web straight as it enters the printer, preventing jams and skewed prints
  • Works with fan-fold — desktop printers normally can't take fan-fold; a stand lets them
  • Universal compatibility — no electrical or data connection to the printer, so any printer with a rear media slot works

Format support

  • Roll labels — a horizontal spindle holds the roll; suits cores of various diameters
  • Fan-fold labels — a lower platform supports the stacked pile; labels feed up through a tensioning bar

Label stands FAQ

What is an external label stand for?
The external label holder lets you use large label rolls or fan-fold labels that don't fit inside the standard desktop label printer's housing. It eliminates the need for frequent consumable replacement, significantly speeding up the packaging and labelling process.
Does the stand support different types of labels?
Yes — HDWR label stands are universal. They support the two most popular label feed formats. Roll labels — a special spindle holds the roll securely. Fan-fold labels — fed in stacks (zig-zag shape) directly from the lower platform of the stand.
Will the stand fit my printer?
Stands are free-standing devices and do not require a physical connection to the printer. They are compatible with almost any label printer (HDWR, Zebra, Honeywell, Brother, etc.) that has a manual media feed slot on the rear of the housing for external media.
What are the main advantages of using a stand?
Time savings — fewer roll changes thanks to the larger rolls you can install. Money savings — large label rolls are typically cheaper per label than the small rolls designed to fit inside desktop printers. Workplace organisation — stable label tracking prevents the labels from tangling and getting stuck in the printer.
