The SolidHand-BM02U holds two monitors of 17 to 32 inches, up to 9 kg each, side by side on a crossbar carried by one gas-spring arm. Both screens rise and fall together with a light push, and each one tilts, swivels and turns to portrait on its own plate. Two USB 3.0 ports in the base bring your computer's USB to the front of the desk. The base clamps to the desk edge or bolts through a hole in the desktop; the cables run inside the arm.

The monitor screws M-A, M-B and the washers M-C are supplied in two sets — one for each monitor. The base (D) comes assembled: the clamp bolt (D1), the base with the post (D2) and the clamp jaw (D3) are taken apart in step 1.

Before you start

Assembly takes about forty minutes. Prepare the following:

  • A second person — hanging the monitors on the crossbar is a two-person job
  • A Phillips screwdriver; the three Allen keys are in the kit
  • For grommet mounting on a desk without a hole: a drill with a Ø10 mm (3/8") bit
  • A check that both monitors weigh no more than 9 kg and have VESA 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 holes, and that the desktop is 10–45 mm thick and solid enough to carry the stand with both screens

Check that you have received all the parts listed above before you start. If anything is missing or damaged, contact us before assembling the stand.

Assembly

Step 1 — Prepare the base and fix it to the desk

The base (D) is delivered assembled. Undo the clamp bolt (D1) with the 6 mm Allen key (Q) — it sits in the top of the post — and separate the base with the post (D2) from the clamp jaw (D3).

USB cables

  1. Turn the base over. Unscrew the small mounting plate on the underside with a screwdriver and break off its side piece, as the inset shows — that opening lets the cables out.
  2. Plug the two USB cables (R) into the sockets on the underside and press the cables into the groove.
  3. Screw the plate back on as a cover over the cables.

Clamp mounting

  1. Put the base on the edge of the desk and the clamp jaw (D3) under it. The desktop must be 10–45 mm thick.
  2. Drop the clamp bolt (D1) into the post from the top and tighten it with the 6 mm Allen key (Q) until the jaw grips the desktop firmly.

Grommet mounting

  1. The desktop must be 10–45 mm thick with a hole of Ø10–60 mm. If there is no hole, drill one with a Ø10 mm (3/8") bit.
  2. Put the base on the desk over the hole, drop the long grommet bolt (J) into the post from the top and fit the grommet plate (K) onto it from below.
  3. Tighten the bolt with the 6 mm Allen key (Q).

Finally clip the cable cover (G) onto the post from the front, over the USB cables.

Step 2 — Fit the lower arm

  1. Slide the lower arm (B) onto the post of the base.
  2. Lock it with the grub screw on the side of the post, using the 3 mm Allen key (O).

Step 3 — Fit the gas-spring arm and the crossbar

  1. Slide the upper arm (A) into the lower arm and lock it with the grub screw, using the 3 mm Allen key (O).
  2. Screw the two crossbar rails (F) to the plate on the upper arm with the six M6 × 12 screws (N), using the 5 mm Allen key (P).
  3. Screw the handle bar (E) and the cable channel (H) to the underside of the crossbar with the four M5 × 12 screws (M) and a screwdriver.

Step 4 — Fit the VESA plates to the monitors

  1. Screw a VESA plate (C) to the back of each monitor with four screws and the washers (M-C): M4 × 12 (M-A) or M5 × 12 (M-B), whichever fits the thread in the monitor. The TOP mark on the plate points up.
  2. Pick the screw length that neither bottoms out nor is too short — the drawing shows the right and the wrong result.
  3. Screw a thumb screw (I) into the rail clip of each plate — it will lock the monitor's position on the crossbar.

Step 5 — Hang the monitors on the crossbar

  1. With a second person holding the monitor, slide the clip of its VESA plate onto the end of the crossbar rail.
  2. Slide the monitor along the rail to where you want it and fix the clip with an M4 × 8 screw (L) and a screwdriver.
  3. Repeat with the second monitor on the other rail. Tighten the thumb screws (I) once the screens are positioned.
caution

Slide the monitors onto the rails with a second person holding each screen. Do not let go until the clip is screwed on.

Step 6 — Balance the gas spring

The gas spring has to match the weight of both monitors. When it does, the crossbar stays wherever you leave it and moves with a light push. Adjust the tension with both monitors mounted:

  1. Hold the arm horizontal, as the drawing shows. Ask for help if needed.
  2. If the arm drops, turn the adjustment screw on the underside of the arm counter-clockwise (towards +) with the 6 mm Allen key (Q) until the arm stays horizontal.
  3. If the arm rises, turn the screw clockwise (towards −) until it stays horizontal.
caution

Keep the arm horizontal while adjusting — a loaded arm that springs up or drops can damage the monitors. Do not overtighten the screw.

Step 7 — Route the cables

Open the cable covers on the arm by pressing their latches — do not pry them off with force — lay the monitor cables in the channels and close the covers. Run the cables along the crossbar channel (H), down through the arm and out through the post cover (G) at the base.

Step 8 — Set the swivel stop

A stop screw on the post decides how far the arm swings. With the screw fitted and tightened with the 3 mm Allen key (O) — not hard — the arm swivels ±90°, so it cannot be swung behind the desk. With the screw removed or loosened the arm turns freely through a full 180°.

Step 9 — Position the screens

  1. Lift or lower both screens together by the crossbar — the gas spring holds them where you leave them.
  2. Tilt each screen, turn it to portrait or swivel it left or right by hand.
  3. To move a screen sideways along the rail, loosen its thumb screw (I), slide the plate and tighten the screw again.

Step 10 — Store the Allen keys

The post cover (G) has holders for the Allen keys. Keep them there, ready for the next adjustment.

Using the stand

Once the gas spring is balanced, every adjustment is made by hand:

  • Height — both screens together, by the crossbar; the gas spring holds them where you leave them
  • Reach — up to 460 mm from the post
  • Arm swivel — ±90° with the stop screw fitted, 180° without
  • Screen tilt — ±10°, each screen on its own
  • Screen rotation — ±180°, including 90° to portrait (pivot), each screen on its own
  • USB — the two USB 3.0 ports in the base work as a passive hub once the cables are plugged into the computer

Safety instructions

Failure to read, understand and follow all instructions can result in serious personal injury or damage to equipment.

  • Make sure the desk can safely carry the stand and both monitors.
  • Do not exceed the rated 9 kg per monitor.
  • Always use a second person or a mechanical lift to raise and position the stand and the monitors safely.
  • Tighten screws firmly, but do not overtighten. Overtightening damages the product and greatly reduces its holding power.
  • Keep a safe distance from moving parts when using the stand.
  • Use only as intended. This product is for indoor use only.
  • The product may contain small parts that can be a choking hazard if swallowed. Keep them away from children.

Frequently asked questions

What is the VESA standard and does my monitor support it?
VESA defines the pattern of four mounting holes on the back of a monitor. The SolidHand-BM02U takes VESA 75 × 75 mm and 100 × 100 mm, which covers the vast majority of 17–32 inch monitors. Look for four threaded holes in a square on the back of your monitor — your monitor's manual states whether they are 75 × 75 or 100 × 100.
How do the built-in USB 3.0 ports work?
The two USB 3.0 ports in the base are a passive hub. The two supplied cables connect them to your computer's USB ports, and you get two connections at the front of the desk — for a flash drive, a mouse, a keyboard or a headset — without reaching behind the PC.
How much weight can each arm support?
Up to 9 kg per monitor. Most 17–32 inch monitors weigh 3 to 7 kg, so the stand handles the typical range comfortably. Check the weight of your monitors before buying.
Can I mix portrait and landscape orientation?
Yes. Each screen turns on its own VESA plate, so one can stay in landscape while the other is turned 90° to portrait for code, documents or reading.
Why does the crossbar drop or rise on its own?
The gas spring is not balanced for the weight of the monitors. Hold the arm horizontal and turn the adjustment screw under the arm with the 6 mm Allen key — counter-clockwise if the arm drops, clockwise if it rises — until it stays put. See step 6.
