The SolidHand-DS01 holds one monitor of 17 to 32 inches, up to 9 kg, on a spring-assisted arm. The screen is raised, lowered, tilted, swivelled and turned to portrait by hand, without tools. The base clamps to the edge of the desk or bolts through a hole in the desktop; the cable runs inside the arm.

Before you start

Assembly takes about twenty minutes. Prepare the following:

  • A second person — hanging the monitor on the arm is a two-person job
  • A Phillips screwdriver for the monitor screws; both Allen keys are in the kit
  • For grommet mounting on a desk without a hole: a drill with a Ø10 mm (3/8") bit
  • A check that the monitor weighs 2–9 kg and has VESA 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 holes, and that the desktop is solid enough to carry the arm with the screen

Check that you have received all the parts listed above before you start. If anything is missing or damaged, contact us before assembling the arm.

Assembly

Step 1 — Fix the base to the desk

The base is fixed in one of two ways. The clamp needs a free desk edge and leaves no trace; the grommet mount needs a hole in the desktop and gives a flush, permanent installation.

  1. Stand the post (C) on the base plate (F) — its two pins go into the small and the large hole, as the inset shows — put the clamp bracket (D) on top and screw the whole stack together with the M8 × 20 screw (H), using the 5 mm Allen key (K).
  2. Assemble the clamp (E) for the thickness of your desktop: as supplied it spans 10–35 mm; for 35–80 mm unscrew the knob, turn the jaw over and screw the knob back in.
  3. Slide the clamp into the bracket at the height that matches the desktop and fix it with the two M6 × 10 screws (I), using the 4 mm Allen key (J).
  4. Put the base on the edge of the desk and tighten the clamp screw firmly against the underside of the desktop with the 5 mm Allen key (K).

  1. The desktop must be 10–40 mm thick with a hole of Ø10–60 mm. If there is no hole, drill one with a Ø10 mm (3/8") bit.
  2. Take the clamp (E) apart: unscrew the top plate and take the threaded rod (E1) out of the clamp body.
  3. Stand the post (C) on the base plate (F) as for the clamp, put the base on the desk and pass the rod (E1) down through the hole.
  4. Underneath, fit the grommet plate (G) and the nut onto the rod and tighten with the 5 mm Allen key (K).

Step 2 — Fit the lower arm

  1. Set the swivel stop on the post. With the stop screw (J key) in the upper hole the arm turns freely; in the lower hole it limits the swivel to ±90°, so the arm cannot be swung behind the desk. Tighten the stop screw, but not hard.
  2. Slide the lower arm (B) onto the post — it seats about 5 mm down — and lock it with the screw on its side, using the 4 mm Allen key (J).

Step 3 — Fit the upper arm

Slide the upper arm (A) with the VESA head into the lower arm and lock it with the screw on the side, using the 4 mm Allen key (J). The head tilts on its joint — the inset shows the range.

Step 4 — Fit the monitor screws

  1. Screw four screws with washers (M-C) into the VESA holes of the monitor: M4 × 12 (M-A) or M5 × 12 (M-B), whichever fits the thread. Choose the length that neither bottoms out nor is too short — the drawing shows the right and the wrong result.
  2. Leave each screw standing 3 mm proud of the monitor back — that is the gap the keyhole slots of the VESA head hook onto. The TOP mark on the head points up.

Step 5 — Hang the monitor

  1. With a second person holding the monitor, lower the four screw heads into the keyhole slots of the VESA head and let the monitor slide down until it seats.
  2. Tighten the four screws from behind with a screwdriver so the monitor cannot lift off the head.
caution

Do not let go of the screen until all four screws have seated in the slots and are tightened.

Step 6 — Route the cable

Open the cable cover on the arm by pressing its latch — do not pry the cover off with force — lay the monitor cable in the channel and close the cover. Bring the cable down along the post to the desk.

Step 7 — Adjust the spring tension

The spring in the arm has to match the weight of the monitor. When it does, the screen stays wherever you leave it and moves with a light push. Adjust with the monitor mounted:

  1. If the arm drops or rises on its own, turn the adjustment screws at the arm joints clockwise with the 5 mm Allen key (K) — the drawing shows both positions — until the arm stays put.
  2. Check the arm through its whole range and correct again if needed.
caution

Never turn the adjustment screws counter-clockwise — loosening them damages the mechanism. Turn them only clockwise, in small steps.

Step 8 — Tilt and rotation

  1. Tilt the screen up or down by hand. If the monitor does not stay at the angle you set, tighten the screw on the VESA head with the 5 mm Allen key (K).

Using the arm

Once the spring is balanced, every adjustment is made by hand:

  • Height — 133 to 428 mm above the desk; the spring holds the screen where you leave it
  • Reach — up to 453 mm from the post
  • Arm swivel — ±90° at the post and at the arm joint
  • Screen tilt — ±55°
  • Screen rotation — ±180°, including 90° to portrait (pivot)

Safety instructions

Failure to read, understand and follow all instructions can result in serious personal injury or damage to equipment.

  • Using the arm with a load above the rated 9 kg makes it unstable and can lead to injury or damage to the monitor.
  • Follow the assembly instructions exactly. Incorrect installation can cause damage or serious personal injury.
  • Make sure the desk can safely carry the combined weight of the arm, the monitor and all mounting hardware.
  • Use the supplied screws and washers and do not overtighten them.
  • The product contains small parts that can be a choking hazard if swallowed. Keep them away from children.
  • The product is intended for indoor use only. Outdoor use can damage it.
  • Check at least every three months that the arm is secure and safe to use.

Frequently asked questions

What monitor sizes and standards are supported?
Monitors from 17 to 32 inches with VESA 75 × 75 mm or 100 × 100 mm holes — that covers most desktop monitors sold today. Check the back of your monitor for the VESA pattern.
What is the maximum load capacity?
The arm carries a monitor of 2 to 9 kg. Keep the monitor within that range — it is what the mechanical spring is designed for.
How is the arm attached to the desk?
Two ways, both in the kit: a desk clamp for desktops 10–80 mm thick, or a grommet mount through a hole in the desktop (10–40 mm thick, hole Ø10–60 mm) using the clamp's threaded rod, the grommet plate and the nut.
Can I set the screen vertically?
Yes. The head turns ±180°, so a 90° turn puts the screen in portrait — useful for coding, reading long documents or any work that benefits from a tall screen.
Why does the arm drop or rise on its own?
The spring tension does not match the weight of the monitor. Turn the adjustment screws at the arm joints clockwise with the 5 mm Allen key, in small steps, until the arm stays put. Never turn them counter-clockwise. See step 7.
