Gas-spring desk arm for one monitor, SolidHand-SG01

GTIN: 5907614661908 · SKU: SolidHand-SG01

The SolidHand-SG01 is a desk arm for one monitor of 13 to 27 inches weighing 2 to 8 kg. A gas spring balances the weight of the screen, so it moves with a light push and stays wherever you leave it. The base turns 360°, the arm reaches 160 to 410 mm, the head tilts from −45° to +90° and rotates ±90° to portrait. The cables run inside the arm under covers. The base fixes to the desk with the clamp or through a hole in the desktop.

Maintenance

At regular intervals — at least every three months — check that the arm is firmly fixed and safe to use.

Assembly

Step 1 — Fix the base to the desk

The base can be fixed to the desk in two ways: with the clamp on the edge of the desktop (option A) or through a hole in the desktop with the grommet plates (option B).

Option A — desk clamp

  1. Bolt the clamp bracket (B) to the underside of the base of the arm (A) with the three M6 × 12 mm bolts (E) and tighten them with the 4 mm Allen key (J) (fig. 1a-1).
Step 1a-1: the clamp bracket bolted under the base of the arm with three M6 × 12 bolts and the 4 mm Allen key
  1. Bolt the clamp (C) to the bracket (B) with the two M6 × 10 mm bolts (D), using the 4 mm Allen key (J). Choose the pair of holes to match the thickness of your desktop: the upper holes for a desktop of 10–55 mm (fig. 1a-2a), the lower holes for 50–85 mm (fig. 1a-2b).
Step 1a-2: the clamp bolted to the bracket in the upper holes for a 10–55 mm desktop or the lower holes for 50–85 mm
  1. Hook the clamp over the edge of the desk and tighten the knob underneath until the base stands firm (fig. 1a-3).
Step 1a-3: the arm clamped to the edge of the desk with the knob tightened underneath

Option B — through a hole in the desktop

  1. Put the upper grommet plate (F) under the base of the arm (A) and fix it with the three M6 × 12 mm bolts (E), tightened with the 4 mm Allen key (J). Screw the long bolt (H) into the middle of the plate so that it points down (fig. 1b-1).
Step 1b-1: the upper grommet plate bolted under the base and the long bolt screwed into it
  1. Stand the base on the desk with the long bolt through the hole in the desktop. From below, slide the lower plate (I) onto the bolt and tighten the wing nut (G) until the base stands firm (fig. 1b-2).
Step 1b-2: the long bolt passed through the desktop, the lower plate and the wing nut tightened underneath

Step 2 — Fit the VESA plate to the monitor

Screw the VESA plate on the head of the arm to the back of the monitor with the 5 mm Allen key (K). Pick the bolts that fit the threads in your monitor: M4 × 12 mm (M-A) or M6 × 12 mm (M-B).

  • If the VESA holes sit in a recess, put the washers (M-C) between the plate and the monitor as spacers so that the plate does not press on the housing.
  • If the back of the monitor is flat, put the washers under the heads of the bolts.
  • The bolts must go fully into the threads of the monitor without bottoming out — a bolt that is too long can damage the monitor, one that is too short will not hold it.
caution

Have a second person hold the monitor while you fit the plate and hang it on the arm.

Step 2: the VESA plate screwed to the monitor with the Allen key, with washers used as spacers on a recessed back or under the bolt heads on a flat back

Step 3 — Hang the monitor and set the tension

  1. With a second person holding the monitor, slide its VESA plate down onto the head of the arm as shown, and lock it by tightening the screw on the head with the 5 mm Allen key (K).
  2. Adjust the head friction with the same key: turn the screw on the tilt joint clockwise to make the tilt stiffer, until the screen holds the angle you set.
  3. Set the gas spring to the weight of the monitor: if the arm sinks under the screen, turn the tension screw clockwise (+) with the Allen key (K) in small steps; if the arm rises on its own, turn it back a little. The screen should stay wherever you leave it and move with a light push.
Step 3: the monitor slid onto the head of the arm, the locking screw tightened and the tension screw turned clockwise with the 5 mm Allen key

Step 4 — Open the cable covers

The cables run inside the arm. On each segment of the arm loosen the screw of the cover with the 5 mm Allen key (K) (1) and swing the cover open (2).

Step 4: the cover screws loosened with the Allen key and the covers on both arm segments swung open

Step 5 — Route the cable and close the covers

Lay the monitor cable in the channel along both segments of the arm, close the covers (1) and tighten their screws (2). Leave enough slack at the joints for the full movement of the arm — a taut cable pulls on the ports every time the screen is moved.

Step 5: the cable laid in the channel of the arm and the covers closed and screwed shut

Step 6 — The arm is ready

The drawing shows the movement ranges: the base and the arm joints turn 360°, the head rotates 360° on its axis, the screen pivots 180° from landscape to portrait and back, tilts from −45° to +90°, and the gas spring lets you raise and lower it by hand.

Step 6: the movement ranges of the arm — 360° at the base and joints, 180° pivot, tilt from −45° to +90°, height by hand

Using the arm

Everything is set by hand once the tension is right:

  • Height and reach — take the screen and move it; the gas spring holds it in place (reach 160–410 mm)
  • Swivel — 360° at the base and at the arm joints
  • Tilt — from −45° to +90°
  • Rotation — ±90°, so the screen can be turned to portrait
  • Load — one monitor of 2 to 8 kg; readjust the tension screw when you change the monitor

Frequently asked questions

What monitor sizes and weights does the SolidHand-SG01 support?
The SG01 is designed for monitors of 13 to 27 inches weighing 2 to 8 kg. The monitor needs VESA 75 × 75 or 100 × 100 mounting holes on the back.
Do I have to drill holes in the desk to install it?
Not necessarily. The clamp fixes directly to the edge of the desk without drilling and leaves no permanent marks. Mounting through a drilled hole with the grommet plates is also possible for a more permanent installation. Both are described in step 1.
How does the gas-spring adjustment work?
The gas spring balances the weight of the monitor, so the screen stays at any height without locking mechanisms or manual tightening — just raise or lower it and it stays exactly where you put it. The tension has to be matched to the weight of your monitor once, with the tension screw (see step 3).
Can I use the pivot function to rotate the monitor to portrait?
Yes. The SG01 supports a 90° pivot, so you can switch between landscape and portrait orientation as needed. Portrait mode is useful for editing documents, browsing long web pages or programming.
How thick can the desktop be?
The clamp takes desktops from 10 to 85 mm — bolt it to the upper holes of the bracket for 10–55 mm or the lower holes for 50–85 mm. The grommet mounting is limited only by the length of the bolt.
The arm sinks or rises on its own — what should I do?
The gas spring is not matched to the weight of your monitor. Turn the tension screw on the arm with the 5 mm Allen key: clockwise (+) if the arm sinks, back a little if it rises. Make small adjustments and test after each one.
