UHF RFID tag, 865–868 MHz, in the form of an M16 mounting screw, Tag-H3-M16

GTIN: 5906935200858 · SKU: Tag-H3-M16

The Tag-H3-M16 is a silver-grey steel UHF RFID tag built into an M16 mounting screw, designed for permanent marking of metal assets. It is screwed directly into the equipment, so it cannot peel off or be removed by accident, and it keeps its reading range on metal, where ordinary RFID labels lose it. It works in the EU 865–868 MHz and US 902–928 MHz bands, has an Alien Higgs-3 chip and is read from up to 120 cm with a handheld reader and up to 200 cm with a fixed reader. It is rated IP68 and suits the oil and gas industry, outdoor equipment and machinery that works in harsh conditions.

General instructions

Before using the RFID tags for the first time, read this manual carefully to make sure they have been installed and configured correctly.

RFID tag usage rules

The Tag-H3-M16 is a specialised tag — designed to work in harsh conditions, e.g. more resistant to high temperatures, shocks or water. Screw it into a threaded M16 hole in the metal asset; the screw construction fastens the tag permanently to the equipment and keeps the reading range on metal, where ordinary RFID labels lose it.

Protection against damage

  • RFID tags are passive devices and need no power supply. Protect them against mechanical damage to keep them reliable.
  • Use specialised tags as intended and in suitable conditions to ensure they work correctly.

Protection against interference

  • Electromagnetic interference: RFID tags can be susceptible to electromagnetic interference, so do not store or use them near strong sources of interference, such as electronic devices that generate strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Reading data: to ensure optimal reading, store the tags so that nothing blocks the radio signal — for example, do not store them in metal containers that can interfere with the signal.

Maintenance and cleaning

Store and operate specialised tags in line with the manufacturer's recommendations for use in harsh conditions.

Storage

  • If the RFID tags will not be used for a long time, store them in a dry, cool place, away from strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Avoid storing the tags in places with extreme temperatures or humidity, or where they may be mechanically damaged, e.g. crushed.

Following these rules helps keep RFID tags safe to use and increases their durability and reliability.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose a bolt-shaped RFID tag over a standard label tag?
Adhesive and screw-on label tags can peel off under heat, vibration, moisture or mechanical contact — especially on metal surfaces. The bolt-shaped Tag-H3-M16 is mechanically fastened into the asset itself, making it impossible to remove by accident and immune to surface contamination. It is the right choice whenever tag permanence is a legal, safety or compliance requirement.
What RFID readers are compatible with the Tag-H3-M16?
The Tag-H3-M16 is compatible with any standard UHF RFID reader operating in the 865–868 MHz band (EU) or 902–928 MHz band (US) and supporting the EPC Gen 2 / ISO 18000-6C protocol. Both fixed (stationary) readers and handheld UHF RFID readers from HDWR and other manufacturers work with this tag.
Can the tag be read on metal surfaces?
Yes. The Tag-H3-M16 is specifically designed for on-metal use. The bolt construction inherently integrates with the metal asset, and the antenna design compensates for the detuning effect that metal has on standard RFID labels. Reading performance on metal is fully within the specified range (up to 120 cm handheld, up to 200 cm stationary).
