Industrial wideband UHF RFID tag for metal surfaces, 840–940 MHz, Tag-R6P-087

GTIN: 5906935200827 · SKU: Tag-R6P-087

The Tag-R6P-087 is an advanced long-range RFID tag designed for metal surfaces in demanding outdoor conditions. Thanks to the wideband 840–940 MHz UHF frequency, the tag performs reliably worldwide. Its compact 87 × 24 mm size and screw mounting (two 5 mm holes) make it versatile and easy to install.

The Tag-R6P-087 is used in many industries that require asset tracking, such as logistics, industrial production, warehousing and asset management on construction sites. Its durable construction and long service life make it an excellent choice for tracking large metal objects such as containers, industrial machinery and structural elements.

General instructions

Before using the RFID tags for the first time, read this manual carefully to make sure they have been installed and configured correctly.

RFID tag usage rules

The Tag-R6P-087 is a specialised tag — designed to work in harsh conditions, e.g. more resistant to high temperatures, shocks or water. Screw it to a metal surface through the two mounting holes; the tag reaches its longest reading range on metal.

Protection against damage

  • RFID tags are passive devices and need no power supply. Protect them against mechanical damage to keep them reliable.
  • Use specialised tags as intended and in suitable conditions to ensure they work correctly.

Protection against interference

  • Electromagnetic interference: RFID tags can be susceptible to electromagnetic interference, so do not store or use them near strong sources of interference, such as electronic devices that generate strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Reading data: to ensure optimal reading, store the tags so that nothing blocks the radio signal — for example, do not store them in metal containers that can interfere with the signal.

Maintenance and cleaning

Store and operate specialised tags in line with the manufacturer's recommendations for use in harsh conditions.

Storage

  • If the RFID tags will not be used for a long time, store them in a dry, cool place, away from strong electromagnetic fields.
  • Avoid storing the tags in places with extreme temperatures or humidity, or where they may be mechanically damaged, e.g. crushed.

Following these rules helps keep RFID tags safe to use and increases their durability and reliability.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the R6P-087 work better on metal than standard RFID tags?
The R6P-087 is a metal-mount tag — its internal design and ground plane are specifically engineered to use the metal surface beneath it as part of the antenna structure. Standard RFID tags placed on metal detune and lose read range dramatically. The R6P-087 achieves its best performance on metal, up to 9.8 m with a stationary reader.
Is the 840–940 MHz frequency range important for international use?
Yes. Different regions regulate UHF RFID frequencies differently: Europe uses 865–868 MHz, the USA uses 902–928 MHz, and other markets fall elsewhere in the 840–960 MHz band. The R6P-087’s wideband range covers all major global markets, so the same tag works in a European warehouse, a US distribution centre or an Asian manufacturing plant without any modification.
How is the R6P-087 installed on metal assets?
The tag has two 5 mm diameter holes for screw-mounting directly onto metal surfaces. This is the recommended method because it ensures consistent coupling with the metal and maximum read range. Adhesive mounting is not designed for this model — the screw-mount approach also makes the tag more resistant to vibration and impact in industrial environments.
What personal data protection rules apply to RFID tagging?
RFID tags themselves store only a unique identifier (EPC code) — they contain no personal data. If the EPC is linked to personal data in an external system (e.g., an employee record), the data controller must ensure GDPR compliance in that system. The physical tag on a metal asset does not create a GDPR obligation on its own.
