Safes

HDWR offers a range of safes for hotels, home offices, business premises and cash deposits. Available with electronic keypad locks, biometric (fingerprint) locks and mechanical key locks — pick the lock type, capacity and mounting that matches your use case.

Typical use cases

  • Hotel safes (10–20 l) — laptops, passports, small valuables in guest rooms
  • Home / office safes (20–50 l) — A4 documents, larger valuables, daily-use storage
  • Deposit safes (50+ l) — retail end-of-shift cash drops with a slot for inserting envelopes
  • Wall- and floor-mounted — always bolted in place; never leave a safe loose

Lock types

  • Electronic keypad — multiple PIN codes (manager + user), easy to change, the most common choice for business
  • Biometric (fingerprint) — convenient for personal use, always paired with a backup PIN
  • Mechanical key — simplest and most reliable long-term; losing the key means a locksmith visit
  • Combination — manual rotary dial; reliable but slower in daily use

Safes FAQ

How do I choose the right safe size?
Pick the safe based on what you need to store. Hotel safes (10–20 l) fit a laptop, passports and small documents. Home/office safes (20–50 l) hold A4 documents and larger valuables. Deposit safes (50+ l) are designed for cash drops by retail staff. Always measure your largest expected item (e.g. a 13-inch laptop is ~33 cm wide) before ordering.
Electronic, biometric or key lock — which is more secure?
All three are certified safe locking methods at the price points we sell. Electronic keypad locks are the most common — easy to use, support multiple PINs, easy to change. Biometric (fingerprint) locks are convenient for personal use but should always be paired with a backup PIN. Mechanical key locks are the simplest and most reliable long-term but lose flexibility (losing the key means a locksmith visit). For business use we recommend electronic with manager + user codes.
What do I do if the battery is dead and I can't open the safe?
All HDWR electronic safes include either an emergency key (typically two keys shipped with the product — keep one off-site) or external 9V battery contacts on the front panel. To use the external battery, press a fresh 9V to the contacts and enter your PIN normally. Replace internal batteries (4× AA alkaline) immediately after opening. Never use rechargeable batteries — voltage drops too fast.
How do I install (anchor) the safe?
Every HDWR safe ships with anchor bolts. Drill matching holes in the floor or wall (use the safe's pre-drilled holes as a template), insert wall anchors and tighten the bolts. Floor-mount is recommended for safes over 25 kg, wall-mount for smaller safes. Always anchor — even a heavy safe can be carried away by a strong adult. Install the safe in a corner, ideally bolted to two surfaces.
Can I change the master PIN code?
Yes. The procedure varies by model: most HDWR safes require pressing the # or * button, entering the current PIN, then entering and confirming the new PIN. Detailed steps are in the user manual that ships with the product. Always change the factory default PIN (usually 1-2-3-4-5-6) on first use. Pick a code that is not a birthday, anniversary or sequential digits.
Is the safe fireproof or waterproof?
Standard HDWR safes are burglary-resistant but NOT fire-rated. They protect against theft and casual access. For fire protection look for a UL-certified or EN 1047 fire safe — these have insulated walls and are bulkier. Waterproofing is rare on safes in this price range. If you need both, mention 'fireproof safe' when contacting sales and we'll quote the appropriate model.
